It's that time of year again! GAUFEST! If you are part of a Shuhplattler Tanzgruppe in the US, then you've been looking forward to and preparing for this event since the last Gaufest. Besides all the dance practicing, one of the most stressful parts of the preparations is packing. I'm always seem to forget something, so this year I've made the Ultimate Gaufest Checklist (because I'm sure I'm not alone in the forgetfulness department)

Prep Work/To-Do:

  • Polish silver jewelry
  • Prepare a sewing kit—needle, thread, scissors, spray starch, safety pins, straight pins
  • Remove nail polish or get a French manicure
  • Iron all skirts and aprons
  • Polish trachten shoes
  • Order new dirndls and/or new blouses (if needed)
  • Prepare jewelry
    *PRO TIP* - use a tackle box to easily view all available items
  • Order flowers
  • Prepare costume for farewell party Sunday night
  • Make a personal clothing packing list
  • Organize garment bag and/or suitcase

Packing List:

  • Make-Up – Just the basics: light pink lipstick, blush, concealer, mascara, foundation etc.
  • Hair essentials - hair ties, bobby pins, hair spray, comb, brush, hair net & hair pins
  • Shoe shine kit or pre-polished shoes in a shoe bag
  • Beverages - booze, mixers, water, & of course… Schnapps!
  • Cups: plastic shot glasses (gotta share your schnapps!), solo cups, past Gaufest mugs
  • Snacks for the room – crackers, käse, wurst, bread (hangover foods?)
  • Ibuprofen (or other personal hangover cure)
  • Sewing Kit
  • Tide stick
  • Jewelry polishing cloth
  • Something to massage your feet in the morning
  • Personal Dirndl
  • Club Tracht and all the appropriate pieces
  • Other club clothing – group t-shirt etc.
  • Sunday Night Costume
  • Personal speaker (näturlich for the after party)
  • Any instruments you may need
  • Decorations for your door
  • Some stockpiled energy for a weekend of awesomeness!!
