German Festivals in the US: Your 2026 Regional Guide

Summer is basically just a series of excuses to wear a dirndl... and honestly, we support that.

If you've got German heritage, a deep love of bratwurst, or just really want to polka in a beer garden before October rolls around, good news: there are German festivals happening all over the country this summer. And unlike Oktoberfest, you don't need a transatlantic flight to get there.

We put together this regional guide so you can find what's happening near you in 2026. Dates confirmed where possible... but always check the official site before you book your road trip.

MIDWEST

The Midwest is the heartland of German-American culture in the US, and the festivals prove it. This is where you'll find the real stuff.

Frankenmuth Bavarian Festival — Frankenmuth, MI | June 11-14, 2026

Michigan's "Little Bavaria" goes full tilt for four days every June. Polka bands, a maibaum raising, a parade, and more brats than you can eat. If you've never been, this one is genuinely worth the trip.

Bavarian Blast — New Ulm, MN | July 16-19, 2026

New Ulm calls itself the most German city in America and Bavarian Blast is its biggest party of the year. Live music (German AND rock/country), a Bavarian parade, August Schell beer, and a stein-holding contest. Four days, Brown County Fairgrounds.

German Fest Milwaukee — Milwaukee, WI | July 24-26, 2026

The largest German festival in North America. Held along the shores of Lake Michigan, German Fest Milwaukee has grown since 1981 to welcome tens of thousands of guests across 75 acres of lakefront festival grounds. Polka, schnitzel, the Dachshund Derby, and enough beer to make your oma proud. Kids Out and About

German-American Festival — Oregon, OH (Toledo area) | August 28-30, 2026

One of Toledo's oldest and largest cultural festivals, promoting German and Swiss cultures for over half a century. Authentic food, import beer, folk dancing, and German contests. Solid regional pick for the Ohio/Michigan crowd. Visit Toledo

Wurst Festival — Amana Colonies, IA | June 19-20, 2026

The Amana Colonies are a legitimately cool slice of German-American history in Iowa. The Wurst Festival leans into it with sausage competitions and heritage vibes. Worth the detour if you're in the region. 

EAST COAST

German-American Steuben Parade — New York City, NY | September 19, 2026

The Steuben Parade takes place every third Saturday in September, marching up Fifth Avenue for three hours with German dance groups, music societies, floats, and organizations from across the US and Europe. If you're in or near NYC in mid-September, this is a must. The whole Yorkville neighborhood comes alive around it. Loving New York

Maryland German Festival — Lutherville-Timonium, MD | July 11-12, 2026

A smaller regional fest with authentic culture and a genuine heritage-club feel. Good pick for the DC/Baltimore crowd.

SOUTH & SOUTHEAST

Busch Gardens Bier Fest — Williamsburg, VA | July 31-September 8 (Friday through Sunday + Labor Day)

Runs seasonally at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. German food, imported and craft beers, live entertainment. More "event" than heritage festival but fun for the group trip crowd.

PACIFIC NORTHWEST

German American Society Annual Picnic — Portland, OR | August 23, 2026

A heritage club picnic, low-key and community-focused. A great spot if you're in Portland and want something off the tourist radar.
