Whether you are going to THE Oktoberfest in Munich or one of the many local Oktoberfests throughout the US, in my personal opinion, I think it is way more fun to wear a dirndl (or lederhosen) than not to. People frequently ask me, “What shoes should I wear?” “How should I wear my hair?” “Do I need special socks?” “How should I do my makeup?”

My answer to all of these questions is basically the same: Whatever looks nice and feels comfortable. If you like to wear stockings, high heels, elegant curls and a dark cat eye… Do it! If you prefer ankle boots, trachten socks, braids and red lipstick… Go for it! If you love your ballet flats, bare legs, ponytail and natural makeup… Rock on!

I believe that it’s about how you feel, more than how "authentic" other people think you look! When I wear my dirndl, I typically do my hair the same way I would if I were going out. Depending on the weather I like to wear socks, tights, leggings, or bare legs (sometimes even if I forget to shave my legs… just a little extra European). And for my makeup… same as any other time I am getting all dolled up. Since I am a makeup expert [eye-roll] I made an expert Oktoberfest Makeup Tutorial that I hope you will enjoy.

Here are links to some of my favorite items:

It’s a Long Story Mascara

Got You Covered Mineral Powder Foundation (I use Ivory… but there are 12 different shades)
