Are you tired of not being able to wear your dirndl? Are you getting the “dirndl itch?” I know I am!!!

 It's that time of year again! GAUFEST! If you are part of a Shuhplattler Tanzgruppe in the US, then you've been looking forward to and preparing for this event since the last Gaufest. Besides all the dance practicing, one of the most stressful parts of the preparations is packing. I'm always seem to forget something, so this year I've made the Ultimate Gaufest Checklist (because I'm sure I'm not alone in the forgetfulness department).

Every year, my friends from the German club get together and visit the Christkindlmarkt here in Chicago. We have made it such a wonderful Holiday tradition that even if we don't buy any gifts, we still like to go downtown to Daley Plaza, listen friends from the Phenix Band play great German music in the drink tent, have a Glühwein or two and enjoy pretending we are in Germany for the evening. This market has been held here in Chicago for 21 years and it is always busy... so I'm guessing there will be another 20+ years in it's future!

This coming weekend is one of the most highly anticipated weekends of the year: Gaufest! Whether you have been practicing  for the past 6 months for the Gruppenpreisplatteln or just coming to represent your club and reunite with old friends, there are 9 ways you know that it's Gaufest.
